Royal Prince Alfred Hospital

In the heart of New South Wales, the Royal Prince Alfred (RPA) Hospital stands as a beacon of hope for those battling cardiovascular disease.

The Foundation is committed to enhancing the RPA Cardiovascular Service to meet the growing demand and improve patient outcomes. Cardiovascular disease remains a leading cause of death in Australia. The Foundation is at the forefront of a campaign to promote cardiovascular healthcare. We aim to support the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Cardiovascular Service as a leading clinical and academic centre of excellence in the region.

As the oldest teaching hospital in NSW, RPA has a storied history, having been at the forefront of many medical firsts in the country. As a quaternary hospital for the Sydney Local Health District, RPA treats patients with cardiovascular conditions from across the state. The RPA Cardiovascular Service focuses on cutting-edge sub-specialties, offers advanced robotic and minimally invasive surgeries, fosters research collaboration, provides educational excellence, and promotes translational innovation.

Enhancing cardiovascular healthcare – improving patient outcomes & experiences

Focusing on cardiovascular service at RPA offers numerous tangible benefits, including:

Centralized Expertise

Concentrating expertise allows for better coordination of care, collaboration among specialists, and streamlined treatment protocols.

Advanced Technology and Facilities

Cutting-edge diagnostic and interventional tools, including robotic technology, minimally invasive techniques, hybrid operating theatres, cardiac MRIs, remote monitoring, and telemedicine, improve patient outcomes for complex heart and lung conditions.

Increased Volume of Practice

Higher surgical volumes translate to improved clinical knowledge and surgical expertise to reduce complications. Higher volumes will also streamline system efficiencies and decrease costs by creating standardized processes of care for cardiovascular admissions.

Specialized Care

Focusing on cardiovascular care enhances staff knowledge and experience to augment patient experience and enhance management pathways.

Research and Innovation

Enhanced cardiovascular healthcare serves as a hub for cardiovascular research and innovation. It facilitates clinical trials, develops new treatment modalities, pioneers cutting-edge therapies, and trains the next generation of healthcare professionals in cardiovascular medicine.

Patient-Centred Streamlined Care Pathways

Streamlined care pathways, from the diagnostic phase to operative interventions to long-term rehabilitation, shift the focus onto patient-centred care. A one-stop-shop for cardiovascular care allows for faster diagnosis, more efficient treatment plans, and better coordination among healthcare teams, ultimately improving patient outcomes.

Regional Accessibility

Improving cardiovascular services ensures that residents across NSW have access to specialized care, regardless of their locations. RPA Cardiovascular Service will promote telemedicine and enhance support to rural health visitors to safeguard the cardiovascular health of regional residents.

Reduced Wait Times and Improved Access

By improving cardiovascular healthcare, the service prioritizes patients with cardiovascular conditions, leading to reduced wait times for appointments, procedures, and surgeries.
